Research into the mind and body based approach Mindfulness has shown that the course reduces anxiety by 58%, reduces depression by 57% and reduces stress by 40%.
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT), encourages us to focus on the present, to help us become more aware of our thoughts and feelings, to help prevent us being overwhelmed by them. Combining techniques from both the mindfulness course, like breathing exercises and stretching, with elements from CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) to help break negative thought patterns.
MBCT is now also recommended by NICE (National Institute for Clinical Excellence) for the prevention of relapse in recurrent depression.
